Thomas Henry Benton Smith

Thomas Henry Benton Smith, third child of Paul and Olga Crawford Smith, was born on the family farm, 3 miles south of Keytesville and attended Agee Grade school. His wife Florence was born 6 miles south of Keytesville and went to Hill Grade School. They both gradutated from Keytesville High School; he in 1941 and she in 1946.
    Benton farmed with his father until he entered the U.S. Army on March 2, 1943. During World War II he was assigned to the 163rd Infantry, 41st Division specializing as a machine gunner. He served in New Guinea, Biak and Mindanao and was discharged with the rate of Pfc on November 2, 1945 at Fort Riley, Kansas.
    Benton started his Dairy career on the Arensberger Dairy near Salisbury, Missouri. Early in the spring of 1954 he moved to California to work on dairies there. December of 1954 his third child was born. He worked at private dairies until he was employed by the Chino Minimum Security Prison in Chino, California as Dairyman. He remained there until his retirement about 1980. He returned to working on private dairies moving to Jerome, Idaho in 1982, where he raised replacement stock, for the dairy in California. He later bought a home near Jerome, and finally retired in 1991.
    Benton and Florence are active members of the Methodist church. Florence is an active member of the Methodist Women's organization.
