Notes from Mrs. Elaine Cepek 1997 " He was left an orphan when he was nine years old. John Francis Smith changes his name to McSmith in 1905.  All the children married under the name of Smith except Robert who coninued to use the McSmith and all grandchildren were born McSmith.  He was raised by his mothers half sister, Mary Ann McNabb.  He took the Mc from her name. Before JOhn retired he was a meat cutter and delivered meat to his customers by wagon.  He had owned a trading store in Brazoria Co. owned freight wagons and boats, worked for the railroad, owned a feed store in Crystal City, had a drayage business in Seadrift, Texas, worked for the Cross S Ranch in Uvalde."
