Notes

3. Johan Velten (Valentine) SHULTZ

Johan Velten, Hans Martin, and Jacob Shults came to America at the same time, arriving in Philadelphia on the ship "Pennsylvania Merchant" on 10 Sep 1731, but Johan Velten was almost certainly NOT a brother to the other two. Hans Martin, Johannes, and Jacob Shults, once thought to be brothers of Johan Velten, were the sons of Gabriel and Anna Margaret Shults of Friedelsheim, Palatinate, Germany, as indicated by the records of the Christ Lutheran Church in York Co, PA. The "Pennsylvania Merchant" was out of Rotterdam by way of Dover, England (a complete passenger list can be found in the book "Pennsylvania German Pioneers" by Strassburger and Hinke). Johan Velten (and apparently most of the other Shultses mentioned here) settled on the Susquehanna River in Lancaster (now York) Co, PA, which was the western frontier of civilization at that time. Elizabeth's maiden name is not known. She's shown here as Johan's wife but, in fact, there's some question now among researchers as to whether she was his wife or an unmarried sister! In either event, he had a wife BEFORE Maria and THAT wife was the mother of Heinrich. Maria was the mother of the other children and after Velten's death she married Johan Jorg Mayer.

10. Johan Christian SHULTZ

Christian and his family migrated to Washington Co, Virginia, later moved to Washington Co, North Carolina (TN) in 1778.
