Patrick McGRATH

Mary O'CONNELL  ( Patrick , Austin )
Mary was baptised on Sunday 29th July 1849 in catholic parish church of Kilfenora, County Clare, Ireland.
Mary's godparents were  John GARDEN and Kate LINNANE.
Mary was the daughter of  Mary HAYES and Patrick O'CONNELL.
Mary was aged about 26 years and Patrick was aged about 36 years.

Mary was the 4th of  10 children , 4 boys and 6 girls.
Mary's siblings were   John (b1843-d1903) , Michael (b1845-d1880) , Catherine (b1848-d1848) ,
William (b1854-d1854) , Ellen Christina SMITH / COULTER (b1856-d1916) ,
James (b1857-d1857) , Catherine Florence BYRNE (b1858-d1940) , Bridget (b1860-d....)  and   Annie (b1865-d1865).

Mary was aged about 4 years, when she migrated on Sunday 18th September 1853 in to Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Mary migrated with her parents, Patrick and Mary, and 2 siblings, John and Michael.

Mary was aged about 5 years, when her family moved in 1854 to the Victorian gold fields around Sandhurst.
Mary now had another sibling, William born in Parramatta Street, Sydney.
Mary's uncle and aunt, William and Mary, may have moved with her family.

The family eventually settled in Irishtown, in the Victorian goldfields.
Five more siblings were born in the Sandhurst District, in the Victorian goldfields.
Three siblings died in infancy, whilst the family was living in the Sandhurst District.
They were William died 1854 aged 9 months, James died 1857 aged 10 weeks and Annie died 1865 aged 7 months.

Mary was aged about 17 years, when her mother, Mary died in April 1867 in Irishtown, aged just 44 years.

 

Patrick McGRATH
Patrick was born in County Clare, Ireland.

Patrick's parents and death details are still being researched.

Mary O'CONNELL married Patrick McGRATH
in 1868
Sandhurst, Victoria.

Mary was aged about 19 years.

Mary and Patrick had the following children :

1M Myles McGRATH  was born in 1869 in Sandhurst, Victoria.
2M Patrick McGRATH  was born in 1871 in White Hills, Bendigo, Victoria.
Patrick died in 1894 in Wilcannia, New South Wales.
Patrick was aged about 23 years.
3F Mary McGRATH  was born in 1873 in White Hills, Bendigo, Victoria.

Mary was aged about 20 years, when her father, Patrick O'CONNELL died in March 1870 in Irishtown, aged 57 years.
Mary's other surviving siblings were John aged about 26 years, Michael aged about 24 years,
Ellen aged about 14 years, Catherine aged 11 years and Bridget aged about 10 years.
John, Michael and Mary probably helped raise the 3 younger siblings.

Mary and Patrick McGRATH and their family eventually moved to Wilcannia, New South Wales.
They may have spent some time in Balranald, on their way to Wilcannia.
Mary's siblings, John, Michael, Ellen and Catherine, also moved to Balranald at sometime.
Mary's brother, Michael O'CONNELL died in 1880 in Balranald.
Mary's other siblings all moved to Wilcannia, with their families.
