Third Generation in Australia

Harry Robert DOUGLAS  ( Robert George , Robert )
was born on Monday 1st June 1885 in Thebarton, Adelaide, South Australia. ~s02
Harry was the 7th of 11 children, 8 boys and 3 girls for   Robert George DOUGLAS and Eliza Hannah BROMLEY.
Robert George was aged 45 years and Eliza Hannah was aged 34 years.

Harry's siblings were  Alice Maude WOODS (b1871),  Alexander George (b1873),  Frederick Arthur (b1876),
 Albert Edward (b1878),  Archie William (b1880),  Bertha Elizabeth KELLY (b1882),  Ethel Hannah BARRINGTON (b1887),
 Hugh Norman (b1889),  Wallace Gordon (b1892) and  Tom Edgar (b1895).

Olive Marion ROBERTSON  was born about 1892.

Harry Robert DOUGLAS married Olive Marion ROBERTSON
in 1913
in Broken Hill, New South Wales.

They were both single, Harry was aged about 28 years and Olive was aged about 21 years. ~s02
Harry and Olive had the following children :

1	M	Gordon R DOUGLAS  was born in 1914 in Broken Hill, New South Wales. ~s02 Gordon died in 1914 in Broken Hill, New South Wales. Gordon was aged less than 1 year.
2	M	Gordon John DOUGLAS  was aged about 7 years, when fostered by Harry and Olive in 1928.

Harry was a jockey in 1914 in Stoneleigh, Penola, South Australia.

Harry Robert DOUGLAS served in the Australian Imperial Force during World War 1.
The events in Harry's AIF service records include :

• enlisted on 28 Nov 1914 in Oaklands, South Australia
• passed his Medical Examination on 2 Dec 1914 in Oaklands, South Australia
• appointed on 3 Dec 1914 to 2nd Reinforcements, 10th Infantry Battalion as Private 1333
• embarked on 2 Feb 1915 from Melbourne, on HMAT Clan McGillivray (A46)
• embarked on 2 Mar 1915 from Alexandria, on HMT IONIAN, to join MEF
• wounded in action (shell wound to cheek, left arm and chest) on 19 May 1915 at Gallipoli
• returned on 29 May 1915 to duty from Lemnos
• AWL on 15 Jul 1915 at Gallipoli
• hospitalised on 27 Jul 1915 at Gallipoli with Otitis Media
• hospitalised on 28 Jul 1915 at 2nd Aus Stat Hosp on at Lemnos, then transferred to Malta
• hospitalised on 16 Aug 1915 in Denmark Hill, London, England with Rheumatism and deafness
• embarked on 12 Dec 1915 from Portland, England on "Star of England" for Australia
• returned on "Star of England" to Australia on 29 Jan 1916 with G.S.W. to left orbit
• disembarked on 2 Feb 1916 in Australia after 1 year and 1 day of overseas service
• discharged 21 Jun 1916 from the AIF as Medically Unfit after 1 year 207 days of service

Harry Robert DOUGLAS was awarded the 1914/15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

Harry Robert DOUGLAS died  on 19 Sep 1950 in Springbank Hospital, Adelaide, South Australia.
Harry was aged 65 years. His last residence was at Woodforde.
Harry Robert DOUGLAS was buried on 21 Sep 1950 in West Terrace Cemetery.
Harry's grave is in Kendrew Oval, row 8, grave 26 . He is with his fellow servicemen, including 3 of his brothers.

Olive Marion DOUGLAS nee ROBERTSON died  on 6 Nov 1964 in Prospect, Adelaide, South Australia.
Olive Marion DOUGLAS was buried in Centennial Park Cemetery.  Olive was aged 72 years.
Olive's grave location is in section General AF, path 12, grave 550.
