Michael SCANNELL ( Jeremiah
)
Michael was born on Tuesday 6th January 1863 in Killorglin, County Kerry, Ireland. ~s06
Michael was the son of Catherine SHEEHAN and Jeremiah SCANNELL.
Catherine and Jeremiah were both aged about 43 years.
Michael was the 8th of 8 children , 5 boys and 3 girls.
Michael's siblings were
Mary O'SULLIVAN / O'BRIEN (c1842) ,
Joanna (c1845) ,
Denis (c1848) ,
Timothy (c1849) ,
Margaret McCARTHY (c1850) ,
Andrew (c1852) and
Jeremiah (c1856).
Michael emigrated with his brother Jeremiah , on Thursday 13th November 1879 from London, via Plymouth.
They immigrated on the "Devon" on Thursday 4th March 1880 to Port Adelaide, South Australia.
Michael was listed as aged 22 years and an agricultural labourer. - Registry Number 1595 ~s25
He probably raised his age to help with his application for passage to South Australia.
His correct age was 17 years.
Michael lived in South Australia for six years, then moved about 1886 to Broken Hill, New South Wales.
Anne O'CONNOR ( Daniel )
Anne was born on Wednesday 6th November 1867 in Ballylongford, County Kerry, Ireland.
Anne was the daughter of Catherine O'CALLAGHAN and Daniel O'CONNOR. ~s03, s06
Anne was the 2nd of 3 known children.
Anne's siblings were
Catherine DORAN (c1862) and
Bridget POWER (c1876).
Anne was aged about 20 years in 1887 when she migrated to Port Adelaide, South Australia.
Anne lived in South Australia for about 2 years before moving to Broken Hill, New South Wales.

Anne O'CONNOR married Michael SCANNELL
on Tuesday 8th January 1889
in Broken Hill, New South Wales.
They were married in the Roman Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart.
Michael was aged 23 years, a bachelor and a miner.
Anne was aged 21 1/6 years, a spinster and a laundress. ~s01, s02
Michael and Anne had 9 children, 6 girls and 3 boys, between 1890 and 1906. All were born in Broken Hill.
Michael built a house in Brown Street, on the outskirts of Broken Hill.
He worked on the mines for many years and he walked to and from work on the mine, everyday.
The family moved to 194 Chloride Street, when a larger house was required.
After retiring from the mines, he became a gardener in the Central Reserve. ~s98
Michael and Anne had the following children :
1 F Catherine SCANNELL was born on 24 Feb 1890 in Broken Hill, New South Wales. 2 F Mary Ann SCANNELL was born on 29 Dec 1891 in Broken Hill, New South Wales. 3 M Daniel SCANNELL was born on 28 Apr 1894 in Broken Hill, New South Wales. 4 M Jeremiah SCANNELL was born on 26 Jan 1896 in Broken Hill, New South Wales. 5 M Micheal Joseph SCANNELL was born in 1898 in Broken Hill, New South Wales. 6 F Anne SCANNELL was born in 1899 in Broken Hill, New South Wales. 7 F Margaret Philomena SCANNELL was born in 1902 in Broken Hill, New South Wales. 8 F Ellen Veronica SCANNELL was born in 1904 in Broken Hill, New South Wales. 9 F Monica SCANNELL was born in 1906 in Broken Hill, New South Wales.
Anne SCANNELL nee O'CONNOR died on Monday 6th April 1936 in Broken Hill, New South Wales.
Anne passed away after suffering a cardiac failure*.
Anne was buried on Tuesday 7th April 1936 in the Broken Hill Cemetery.
Anne was aged 69 years. ~s01, s02
Michael moved to 525 Blende Street to live with his daughter, Anne Mallon and her family.
Sometime later, he moved to 164 Thomas Street to live with his daughter, Catherine.
On 3rd of October 1955, Michael fell over in his backyard, and broke the femur in his left leg.
Michael SCANNELL died on Thursday 13th October 1955 in the Broken Hill and District Hospital.
Michael passed away after a cardiac failure, the previous day.
Michael also suffered chronic bronchitis, emphysemia and coronary sclerosis for the previous 20 years.
Michael was buried on Friday 14th October 1955 in the Broken Hill Cemetery.
Michael was aged 92 years. ~s01, s02
Michael is buried with his wife Anne, and their daughter, Catherine.
Their grave is in the Cathoilic Section, CATH S, row 33, grave 1 in the old Catholic section. ~s11

Margaret and Herbert did not have any children. ~s06
Herbert died in 1970 in Armadale, New South Wales. ~s02
Margaret died in 1993 in Sydney, New South Wales. ~s02
Ellen Veronica SCANNELL

was born in 1904 in Broken Hill, New South Wales.
Ellen married
Michael Leo MULDOON in 1940 in Broken Hill, New South Wales. ~s02
Michael was born on 28 Jul 1899 in Mount Barker, South Australia.
Michael was the 11th of 13 children, 9 boys and 4 girls for
Mary Jane PEAKE and John Joseph MULDOON. ~s02
Ellen was known as "Eileen"
and Michael was known as "Leo".
Ellen was a tailoress and Michael was a miner.
After he retired, Michael became "riddled" with arthritis.
Ellen and Michael did not have any children.
They lived in Sulphide Street, Broken Hill.
Michael Leo MULDOON died on 7 Dec 1977 in Broken Hill, New South Wales.
Michael was buried on 9 Dec 1977 in the Broken Hill Cemetery.
Michael was aged 78 years.
Ellen Veronica MULDOON nee SCANNELL died on 12* Sep 1979
in the Home of Compassion, Broken Hill, New South Wales. ~s11
Ellen was buried on 13 Sep 1979 in the Broken Hill Cemetery.
Ellen was aged about 75 years.
Ellen and Michael are buried together in the Catholic section XB, row 7, grave 83. ~s11
