James Davis filed a pension claim on 26 Aug 1890 for service in Capt Goldman Bryson's CO of Union Volunteers from 1 Jun 1863 - 3 Nov 1863. Attesting witnesses were Wright Taylor, brother-in-law, and James D. Murphy. Davis' residence was Nina, Beaver Dam Township, Cherokee CO, NC. The claim was denied on 17 Mar 1891 because he had served less than 90 days. His actual service was found to be from 2 Aug - 3 Nov 1863 in Capt Bryson's CO.

Tennessee Taylor Davis filed a widow's pension claim on 31 May 1892 listing her residence as Nina, Cherokee CO, NC. Sherman Crain, the postmaster at Nina, NC, answered an inquiry from the Commissioner of Pensions saying that he knew James Davis of Capt Bryson's CO very well and that he was dead but his widow and children still lived at Nina. Her pension claim was rejected also for the same reason.
