Pension claim was filed 17 Apr 1891 for Union service in Capt Goldman Bryson's CO of Union Volunteers of 1863. He gave his age as 70 and his residence as Hanging Dog, Cherokee CO, NC. Attesting witnesses were Ben Franklin Payne and William Riley Dockery. Though service was claimed 25 Aug - 3 Nov 1863, it was less than 90 days and therefore pension was denied on 24 Sep 1892. (See also the data for his brother Eli Roberts, 1 SGT, a link on Bryson's CO.)

Reason Roberts' prior military service was with the Confederacy. He enlisted at age 40 with CO A, Walker's Battalion, Thomas' Legion at Beaver Dam, Cherokee CO, NC on 18 Jul 1862 for 3 years or duration of war. He was then counted present through Feb 1863 rolls. No further record was found.

Reason Roberts became a lay preacher in later years and served at Alarka Baptist Church among others. He and Polly were the parents of thirteen children who moved and scattered across this country. His namesake, Reason Roberts, Jr., settled in Hunt CO, TX where he died. Others moved to TN.
