Robert C. Hickey was a brother to James Guinn Hickey and Robert L. (Henry LeRoy) Hickey also pvts in 3rd TN Mtd Inf Regt. Two other brothers in this family were John Lafayette Hickey and George Britton Hickey, members of Capt Goldman Bryson's CO of Union Volunteers, captured and hung near Murphy by Confederate Capt George Gailor Bristol of the 39th NC Inf, CSA on 24 Oct 1863. Family legend has it that these two brothers were hung from a bridge by their heels with their heads in the water. James G. Hickey went out into the night in search of them, found them, cut them down, and carried their bodies away.
