George W. Sutton filed a pension claim 3 Jul 1889 giving his address as Goss Mill, Jackson CO, IN. He claimed service as a pvt in both CO G 3rd TN MTD INF REGT, USA from 8 Aug 1864 - 22 Dec 1864 and in CO E 7th TN MTD INF REGT, USA (12 mo regt) from 26 Jan 1865 - 27 Jul 1865. Pension was granted at $12 per mo from 3 Jul 1890 and increased to $19 per mo on 14 Mar 1913.
Superior Court Records of Cherokee CO, NC for the 1870 spring term show a true bill against George W. Sutton for arson in the burning of Morgan DeHart's building. The Grand Jury also returned a true bill of indictment against him under an alias of Ayers Jones for the rape of Eliza White. The Grand Jury in the 1871 Aug term indicted Sheriff Abel Stanhope Hill for allowing George W. Sutton to escape while a prisoner awaiting trial in the Murphy, NC jail.
