S. H. Johnson's Obituary

S. H. Johnson's Obituary,
Cherokee Scout, March 26, 1906

Mr. S. H. Johnson died at the home of his son, T. L. Johnson, last Friday and was buried at the Baptist cemetery Saturday. He was a substantial and life-long Baptist, was here when the town was laid off and when the first church was organized in Cherokee; he was prominent in his church as a writer and talker. For several days before his death he shouted the praises of God and died in his right mind, happy in the Lord. He was nearly ninety two years of age.

Editorial note by Sandra (Nipper) Ratledge, who found the obituary above, and authored Appalachian Ancestors: S. H. Johnson is Samuel H. Johnson, and his son mentioned above is Theophilus Ledbetter "Bud" Johnson, my husband's great-great-uncle by marriage.
