Alma Jane Hampton, 93, longtime Montrose resident, died on Sunday, June 19, 1994, in the San Juan Living Center at Montrose. Memorial Services to honor the life of Mrs. Hampton were conducted on Thursday, June 23, at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. Following the Memorial Services, interment was held at the Grandview Cemetery. Arrangements were handled under the direction of the Crippin Funeral Home of Montrose. Memorial contributions, in memory of Mrs. Hampton, may be made to the Senior Citizens Center, P. O. Box 790, Montrose, CO. 81402. Alma Jane Wolfe was born in Springfield, MO, on Sept. 10, 1900 the daughter of Edwin James and Vina Katherine (Little) Wolfe. She spent her childhood in Springfield, MO., graduated from the Springfield High School and grew to adulthood there.

On April 20, 1920, she married Turley Alfred Hampton in Springfield, MO. Following their wedding, the young couple rode the old Narrow Gauge Railroad to Montrose, where they made their home on their ranch on Spring Creek Mesa, west of Montrose. They also homesteaded on the Big Cimarron in the Silver Jack Area. Mrs. Hampton not only raised nine children but also helped her husband extensively on their ranch. After her husband's death in November of 1961 at Montrose, Mrs. Hampton took up bowling competitively and traveled to many tournaments. She is survived by five sons.
