Joseph Wesley Hampton was born to Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Hampton in Union County, Georgia, March 3, 1870, and departed this life Nov. 14, 1948, at the age of 78 years, eight months and eleven days. He moved to Missouri in his early twenties and farmed and taught school for 27 years in surrounding states but made Clever his home until 15 years ago when he moved to Springfield, where he lived at the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Blanche O. Pritchard Feb. 9, 1913, and to this union were born three children. When a young man, he was converted and was united with the Methodist church, where he was a member at the time of his death. Survivors include the widow, Blanch, of the home; four sons, Clyde, James, Lee, and Ray Dean, all of Springfield; three brothers, William of Marietta, Ga., Turley of Montrose, Colo., and Marshall of Springfield; one sister, Mrs. Emma Turner of Clever, two grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Clever Methodist Church, with Rev. D.S. Frazier of Boaz officiating. Burial was made in Wise Hill Cemetery near Clever under the direction of the Maples-Harris Funeral Home of Clever.
