*Rev. Hampton, Veteran Cobb Minister Dies

Marietta Journal, Wednesday, July 5, 1967

 

Rev. William L. Hampton, 98, of 210 Maple Ave., N. W., died Tuesday at Shoreham Rest Home.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Maple Avenue Methodist Church with remains placed in state in the church from 2 p.m. Rev. Shelton Eubanks, Rev. Frank Rollins, Rev. Jack Alha, and Rev. Robert Kerr will officiate. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Dobbins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Ministers of the North Georgia Methodist Conference are invited to attend and will meet with the pallbearers at the church at 2:45 p.m.

Surviving are daughter, Mrs. Harry Bickers of Marietta; son, A. M. Hampton of Commerce, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hampton was born in Union County in 1868. He was an active Methodist minister for 40 years. He was a member of the North Georgia Methodist Conference. He retired in 1933. He was married to the former Isabel Law who died in 1964. Since his retirement, he has lived in Marietta. He organized and built Maple Avenue Methodist Church in 1919 and served as its first minister for six years.
