William Hampton's Obituary

William Hampton, 74, of the South Liberty community near Athens, died this morning at his home following a lengthy illness.

A native of Murphy, N.C., he was a son of the late Frank and Ella (Davis) Hampton. He was a retired custodian at McMinn County High School and also had been an active farmer. He was a member of South Liberty Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Cagley Hampton of Athens; seven sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Johnson, Mrs. Coralee Martin and Mrs. Lucille Torbett, all of Englewood, Mrs. Maude Harris of Madisonville, Mrs. Estivee Stewart of Lenoir City and Mrs. Zida Johnson and Mrs. Myrtle Moore, both of Etowah; two brothers, Marvin Hampton of Englewood and Bert Hampton of Michigan; stepmother, Mrs. Zeda Hampton of Etowah and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 P. M. at South Liberty Baptist Church with the Revs. Ed Casteel and Hooper Crittenden officiating. Burial will follow in South Liberty Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour before the service, and the body will in state after 11 A. M. Thursday at Smith Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Thursday night.
