John Anderson Gardner was first married to Clementine Ellis, daughter of Benedict D. and Sarah Adeline (Cardin) Ellis of Monroe CO, TN. After Clementine's death, he married her sister Miss Eliza M. Ellis, which is why both names appear on the front of their tombstone above. Below is the back of their tombstone inscribed with names of the Gardner siblings.
