John and Alice Gay's Home
John S. and Alice (Lewis) Gay's Home in the Knobs

photo taken prior to 1941 in the Knobs of McMinn County, TN
This enlarged photo was taken by Ruth (Worley) Gay, Mrs. Hobart Gay, prior to 1941. Ruth is a daughter-in-law of John and Alice Gay. In the field are watermelon rinds strewn for the chickens indicating the time as mid to late summer. John Samuel Leonard and Alice America (Lewis) Gay built this house on the Samuel E. Gay farm near his old cabin. Seated in a rocking chair in the porch center is Lennis (Gay) Bradley who appears to hold a box on her lap. Standing to her right is her oldest brother Bob Gay who is looking down at their brother Hobart Gay seated on the porch. The female seated to Hobart's right may possibly be Thelma Cardin, and the man seated on her right may be Elbert Gay. The only ones positively identified are Lennis, Bob, and Hobart. Others seated across the entire length of the porch are unidentifiable. Many, many thanks to Couisn Mildred Maupin for sharing this and other photos with me!
