This black and white portrait was made in October 1856 either just before or just after David and Margaret (Cline) Lewis's marriage on Oct. 18. It hung in their home in the Knobs until his death. Afterwards, their daughter Alice America (Lewis) Gay received the portrait and hung it in the front bedroom of her home in the Knobs of McMinn County, TN. There it remained about sixty-one years until her son Bob Gay gave it to his niece Mildred Maupin. Today it is displayed in Mildred's dining room in Cleveland, TN. Many thanks, Mildred!
