is a son of Francis Asbury "Frank" Manis and Matilda Jane "Tilda" Manis of McMinn CO and later Roane CO, TN.
He is the husband of Sarah Elizabeth "Liz" Shoemaker of Rhea CO, TN.
Their son Edward J. Manis, informant, may not have recalled his grandfather's name since he did not know his grandmother's name,
or else the recorder misinterpreted the spoken name as "Ashley" rather than "Asbury."
