*Mrs. Mary Stamey Dies at Local Residence

Rome New-Tribune, Wednesday, November 15, 1939

 

Mrs. Mary Stamey passed away at the residence, 113 C (?) Street, Tuesday afternoon at 5:50 o'clock following a month's illness.

Mrs. Stamey was a member of the Arbor Hill Baptist Church, of Canton, Ga., for 56 years. She was born January 25, 1853 and was married to P. A. Stamey on December 22, 1875.

Surviving are husband, P. A. Stamey, of Lindale; four sons, H. W. Stamey, of Cleveland, Tenn., H. G. Stamey and P. J. Stamey, both of Atlanta; two daughters, Mrs. Donia Lee, of Alabama City, Ala., and Mrs. Margaret Wright, of Lindale; a twin sister, Mrs. Martha Reed, of Hiawassee, N. C., and another sister, Mrs. Emma Turner, of Missouri; two brothers, Joe Hampton of Missouri, and William Hampton, of Marietta. Also surviving are 31 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning at 11 o'clock from the Lindale Baptist Church with the Rev. J. E. Smith, pastor of the Pleasant Hope Baptist Church, the Rev. Fred H. Ray, pastor of the Lindale Methodist Church, and the Rev. R. Lee Knowles, pastor of the Lindale Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will take place in the Pleasant Hope Cemetery.

Six grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
