Veteran Soldier Dies, Aged 90

       Thomas Huntley, member of the Hinckley Post, G.A.R., and one of the few veterans of the Civil War surviving in this town, passed away on Monday at the home of his nephew, the late William C. Saunders, near the village of Kirkland. Mr. Huntley was in his 90th year and had been a resident of this section for about 70 years. He was a native of Crambrook, Kent County, England, and came to this country when 19 years of age, first locating on the Merriman farm near Clark Mills. He served two years in the Civil War, enlisting as a member of Company F, 26th New York Infantry. He participated in some of the principal engagements of the war, such as those of South Mountain, Antietam, Chancellorsville, and Fredericksburg, and yet came through without a mark. Returning after the war to the farm which he had left to fight for his adopted country, Mr. Huntley took up the life of a farmer, and was known through this section as an honest, intelligent, and industrious man. He never married and after the death of his sister, who kept house for him, he went to live with his nephew, William C. Saunders, whose death occurred about two weeks ago. His nearest surviving relatives are a nephew, Herbert Saunders of Kirkland, and a niece, Mrs. C.H. Austen of Clinton. The funeral service will be held this afternoon at 1:30 at the home of the deceased, and at 2 o'clock in Kirkland Church, the pastor of that church, Rev. Clarence B. Post officiating.
       The local post of the American Legion will furnish a firing squad and buglar to do the military honors at the grave.
