My Father - My Hero by Trisha Bingham
(Originally posted as a bulletin on MySpace, Nov 10, 2008 8:56 AM)

My Father passed away yesterday.
He was 82 years old.
My family was literally blessed by God to have him this long.

He has a massive stroke on 02/10/1989. The doctors said if he survived, he would
be a vegetable, and that would be a miracle. Not only did he survive, but he still had his
marvelous brain full of all his knowledge. He went on in the next 19 years to have a
quadruple heart bypass, a leg amputation due to complications related to the stroke
in 1989 and several heart attacks. His cardiologist was amazed at his strength and will
to survive.
He truly was a strong man!
He was the smartest person I ever knew. He was so intellectual that some people were
intimidated by it. Not me, he was my Daddy and I was his Baby Girl.

He and my Mother had been married for 63 years! That is so rare these days.
He loved my Mother so much. I remember reading what he wrote in Mother's day
cards he gave her over the years. She truly was the love of his life.

My Father was a Southern Baptist minister. He lived his life by what he preached.
He instilled his love of God in us.

He also told me growing up that I could do whatever I set my mind to do.
In school he said I could get A's if I wanted and I did!!

How many men can do this?
1 - Be married with several small children at home.
2  Support that family financially.
3 Graduate from a 4 year college in 2 years with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and
graduate Cum Laude (With Honors)?
That is exactly what my Dad did.

My heart is broken, but I know he is no longer suffering and is reunited with his
parents and loved ones who have already passed away.

Hebrews 11:1 "To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be
certain of the things we cannot see."

I have faith in my salvation in Jesus Christ and one day I will see my Father again.

My thoughts and prayers have been with all of Uncle Bill's family as they mourned the loss of their dear husband, father, and grand-father. I know he will be terribly missed. But what a wonderful thing to know that He is with our Lord in a perfect body where we may all join him one day. I look forward to sitting with him and discussing all those books he read! My love to all the Bill Smith family.

Our sincere condolences go to the whole Smith Family. Although I haven't seen Uncle Bill in more years than I can count, I do remember the big family gatherings at Pa and Grans in Banks Arkansas. All the sisters with their families would come from all over the country. Uncle Bill always said grace for those huge feast that Gran and the Daughters would cook. I remember during one of the blessings I opened my eyes early to get a lay of the table before Bill was finished only to see him also eyeing the feast before us while delivering the Blessing. Yes, He'll be missed but not forgotten. God Bless. Tim Murphy and Family

November 13, 2008 Wishing the Smith Family all the comforts and peace that God has to offer as their Husband,Father,and Grandfather has earned. I have known Brother Bill for over 50 years. He was not only my Pastor for a few years but he was also Pastor to My Grandfather who was the Founder of Clovis First Southern Baptist Church (Rev Walter Brown) and my Grandmothers Pastor. Brother Bill always said what he meant. I was serving as his Music Director for a while after Allen Kurts and then I took a new job and had to work on Sunday so had to resign the Post of Music Director. Brother Bill said "What kind of a Christian would take a job where you have to work on Sundays. I always got a chuckle out of that but he WAS right. He was a great leader and I enjoyed being a member of his flock.

"But thanks be to God, which giveth us
the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

1 Corinthians 15:57

"Victory in Jesus"
Words and Music by E.M. Bartlett 1939
(Doesn't this sound like Kathy playing?)

I heard an old, old story, how a Savior came from glory,
How He gave His life on Calvary to save a wretch like me;
I heard about His groaning, of His precious blood's atoning,
Then I repented of my sins and won the victory.

Chorus:
O victory in Jesus, My Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him and all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood.

I heard about His healing, of His cleansing pow'r revealing.
How He made the lame to walk again and caused the blind to see;
And then I cried, "Dear Jesus, come and heal my broken spirit,"
And somehow Jesus came and bro't to me the victory.

Chorus:
O victory in Jesus, My Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him and all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory, beneath the cleansing flood.

I heard about a mansion He has built for me in glory.
And I heard about the streets of gold beyond the crystal sea;
About the angels singing, and the old redemption story,
And some sweet day I'll sing up there the song of victory.

Chorus:
O victory in Jesus, my Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him and all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory, beneath the cleansing flood.
