The Sobek's of Kornice
You are person
Sobek's of Kornice/Kornic is the noble family, originating at the end
of 13th cent. in the region of RATIBOR, near
Ostrava. Several lineages were formed, in Bohemia, at least two, one
of them living 1550 - 1628 in east Bohemia and the other in
Moravia-Silesia until today. Their coat of arms is visible
here.
In the shield is so called Anton´s cross with two spheres on the
ends of both arms. Some heraldics thinks that it is a stylized wine press
work. In the gem - above the shield - there is a statue of an old man.
Why ???
The oldest bearers of this arms were brothers JESEK and PRIBISLAV of Kornice, reminded 1286, and one hundred years later JAROSLAV, VERNEK, JAKUS and HANOUSEK but they are not sure to have been the ancestors of SOBEK's.
-
The original family name was BELIK (from bílý = white). This
name belonged to brothers JAN, SOBEK (Sobeslav) [Here SOBEK is a first
name!]and MATEJ BELIK OF KORNICE. They settled at Trebovice near Ostrava
(1434) BELIK supported Hungarian King Mathyas Korvin against the Czech
King JIRI (George) of PODIEBRAD and Mathyas appointed JAN the "Hauptmann"
of the Upper Silesia. In 1486 JAN acquired the town and estate HLUCIN.
He was put into the jail by the Czech King Jiri (George) and later
received the mercy by the following King VLADISLAV JAGIELLO but he and his
son VACLAV had to give up all their properties to the King (1492).
Their relative SOBEK (not the one mentioned above) had the seat in BOHUMIN, a small town near today´s polish border in the vicinity of OSTRAVA and in 1495 moved to TLUMACOV (5 km to the north of OTROKOVICE !!!) and died circa 1512. He had two sons: SMIL and HYNEK. HYNEK inherited Tlumacov and later after his brother SMIL died, HYNEK received the estate of Vladenin in Silesia. He sold Tlumacov in 1526 and bought the same year VESELI na Morave (35 km to the south of Napajedla). He had three children: JAN and VACLAV who died without heirs and JOHANNA that married TETOUR OF TETOV to whom the estate of VESELI belonged after Johanna´s death.
-
Another lineage settled in Bohemia. The first known was MIKULAS who
bought some estates in the eastern Bohemia in 1487. His sons were JINDRICH,
ABSOLON, BERNARD and BURIAN.
JINDRICH was a burggrave at the castle of Lichemburg (1512), Hauptmann at Smirice (1525). In 1530 bought Trhova Kamenice and Lipka and some villages in the mountains. He died in 1536 without children and his estates came over to his brothers: BERNARD held Lipka (his spouse KATERINA of STRITEZ), and ABSOLON held Trhova Kamenice and was alive in 1565 (spouse LIDMILA of STRANOV). Kamenice was later held by ADAM (1589) and JAN. He was active in the Czech uprising agains the Habsbourgs in 1618 - 1620 and after the defeat (Wh. Mountains battle) his possession was confiscated in 1624 and the Czech lineage died out.
-
There was another family in Silesia in the 15th century: ALBRECHT (1486 -
1503) was the Hauptmann in Opava Duchy, BALTAZAR (1489 in Oelsnitz),
SEBESTIAN (1527 Hauptmann at the castle of Vikstein), VACLAV BELIK
(1533) and MIKULAS (1545 Hauptmann at HLUCIN). Another VACLAV bought
the estate ROPICE near Tetschen (Cieszin, Tesin) in 1526. JIRI senior
kept Ropice in 1591 and JIRI junior kept Konska and Blahotska in the Beskydy
Mountains. Konska was later held by MIKULAS (1599) and KAREL (1632)
who was the holder of today´s BILSKO - BIALA (Poland).
KAREL had a son named JAN JIRI and 3 grand sons KAREL HYNEK, VILEM BOHUMIL and FRANTISEK VILEM.
The two brothers JINDRICH and JIRI were promoted by the King and Emperor FERDINAND II and became barons (in German Freiherr, in Czech svobodný pán) by the Majestat of 26th August 1637.
A. JINDRICH´s sons were JIRI KAREL (1673 at Grodec), KAREL (1701 at Javori) and BEDRICH (*1680 - +1768) who moved to Pomerania in Prussia being of the Protestant religion.
B. JIRI was married with ANNA SKRBENSKY z HRISTE. Their son was RUDOLF, who became in 1674 the the Country´s Judge and 1693 the Hauptmann in the Teschen´s Duchy. His son RUDOLF was the Councillor in Teschen (Cieszin, Tesin) and died 1720. He established two lineages:
-
The barons SOBEK of KORNICE: older son MAXIMILIAN JINDRICH was in charge
of many offices - Hofrichter of the Princes of Legnitz, Councillor of the
Supreme Office, Secret Councillor and President of the Court Commercial
Commission in Silesia (+ 1771). His son KAJETAN was a Country Judge
in Opava´s Duchy, Judge of the Court of Olomouc and Country´s Hauptmann
(+1813). His son IGNAC has only one son VIKTOR by whom this family
wiped out.
-
The Counts SOBEK of KORNICE: KAREL the second son of RUDOLF bought 1712 Ratibor.
By the Emperor´s Majesty of 1716 he was promoted to the count
stand of the kingdom of Bohemia. He became the Hauptmann in Oppeln
and Ratibor and c.k. Secret Councillor (+1738). This family died out
in 1836 by his greatgrandson Karel.

KLOCH of KORNICE and ROHOVSKY of KORNICE are related to SOBEKs and had lived
in Upper Silesia in 16th and 17th century.
