Dear wife

your kind letter and was glad to hear from you all. I was sorry to hear that
you had been so sick. I want to no what wasa the matter with you. I am afraid
that you have happened to some bad accident. Dear, I have seen a great deal
since I rote to you last. There has ben a great deal of fighting in this army.
Fighting has ben going on for the last 11 days. I have not herd any fighting
today yet. I don't know what wil be before knight. You may be sure that we have
seen a hard time. There are none of our settlement boys killed nor wounded as I
no of. Charles Richards was sevaerly wounded. He live near
Trickum. Tho many was killed and wounded, we fought them above Dalton awhile.
We fell back near Resaca. We had a hot time there. We then fell back near
Adairsville, but someone has to fight while falling back. We are now near
Cassville. I don't no where we wil take the next stand. I have not seen John since Sunday knight, just before we crossed
Resaca bridge. It semed that we was about to be cut off. A good many of the boys
left the command and crossed the bridge in hast. Some of them has come in and
some has not. If I could see you I could tell you a heap. I can't rite much
now. I rote this to let you no that I am living. I want to see you all verry
bad. I hope I may see you and the children again very soon.
I close by saying I remain your husband until death.
