Where did William come from and why the double-barrelled name? After almost 20 years of research a chance comment by someone at the Leicestershire Archives led to the Bishops Transcripts for Tur Langton where he appears as William PUTTERILL son of William PUTTERILL and Catherine nee LEWIN. William had six sisters so he possibly took both surnames to stop the LEWIN name dying out!
With
the advent of on-line census searching thanks to Ancestry.co.uk and a very good
friend we may have found William and Harriet in the 1851 census.
