KNOFFLOCK, EDITH EVELYN

 

Edith Knofflock was born on the 1 October 1903 at Inglewood, the daughter of Otto Herman and Rose Evelyn Knofflock nee Parson.

 

Around 1940, Edith Knofflock came to Hawera and started work as a nurse in a private hospital. Her skills as a dress maker were much in demand so she began dressmaking in small rooms upstairs in High Street, and later moved to Douglas Street where she set up the Sel-fit School of Dress-making.

 

Edith taught dress-making at Hawera High School, and during the 1950s to 1970s made wedding gowns for many people.She had many boarders during the 50s and 60s. Many of these stayed with her for years, and continued the friendships began at that time.

 

Coaching young people in table tennis was an active involvement during the 1950s and 1960s, and in later years, Edith enjoyed both indoor and outdoor bowls.

 

Edith Knofflock died on the 18 September 1991 at Hawera aged 87 years.
