COCKER, BARBARA MAISIE nee McCALLUM

 

Barbara McCallum was born in 1939 in Hawera, the daughter of Eric William and Maisie Evelyn McCallum nee Campbell.

 

Barbara was extremely interested in the community and played a leading role in many activities, earning widespread respect and admiration.

 

She was an original member of the Ararata Floral Art Group, the first group formed in South Taranaki, was vice-president of the New Zealand Floral Art Society, and a national floral art judge.

 

Barbara was a trained radiographer, working full time at the Hawera Hospital before her marriage to Geoffrey John Cocker in 1961, and on a part time basis until shortly before her death.A mother of five, Barbara was a vice-president of the Hawera Plunket Society.

 

As a girl and young woman, Barbara was a keen athlete, prominent in swimming, badminton and tennis to name some of her sporting interests.

 

Barbara Cocker died on the 22 June 1975 aged 35 years and is buried at the Hawera Cemetery.
