** According to the IGI Lancelot Holmes was born 25 March 1840 at Brittania or Petone and was the son of James Holmes and Ann nee Armitage.
*** According to the IGI Thomas Rodgers was born 29 February 1840 Petone, Wellington, the son of Charles Rodgers and Cecilia Eliza Herbert.

A book of 46 tickets in the Natives' Association art union was offered by the local branch of the association to be awarded to the oldest native-born New Zealander of European extraction present on the Basin Reserve yesterday. Competitors were in person to record their names and ages, and lodge proof of birth, with the Sports Secretary. The awards were made as follows - Joseph Pudney, aged 57 years 4 months (prize 23 tickets), 1 ; Arthur Thompson, 56 years 10 months 1 day (prize 13 tickets), 2; Miss Heaphy, 55 years 10 months (prize 10 tickets), 3. Other entrants were- Mrs. Harvey, 55 years 7 months; Geo. Tattle, C. W. Brown, and W. F. Cheeseman, 55 years 4 months. Miss Heaphy was born on Anniversary Day in 1842.
