RUSH, EDITH ANN nee GASCOIGNE

 

Edith Gascoigne was born in 1880 in Palmerston North, the daughter of Edward Charles and Emily Gascoigne of Awahuri, Palmerston North.

 

After her schooling, she took a position with Charles Dahl, Danish Consul at Palmerston North, eventually becoming his secretary.In 1905, she married Charles Spurgeon Rush at Palmerston North. Edith arrived in Eltham in 1936, and became actively involved with the All Saint's Anglican Church mothers union and ladies guild and in addition had been a member of the Eltham Horticultural Society and was founder of the Women's Institute gardening circle.

 

As a member of the soldiers' comfort committee, she had rendered fine service during World War Two, while she was also actively connected with the Red Cross Society.

 

Edith Rush died on the 27 August 1949 died in Hawera and is buried at the Eltham cemetery.
