John 12 & Joseph 17; Joseph fled at once fearing he was old enough to fight & his father's murderers may shoot him too. His mother loaded the sleigh, hitched the oxon & tied the cow behind. They drove through the woods to Niagra River & reached St Catherines. Portage routes led to Niagra & they settled Niagra-on-the-lake (Newark). The British Government supplied loyalists with tools, seeds & food for 1 year & 200a to every farmer civilian; from scan on ancestry.com
