St Endelienta was a daughter of a sixth-century Welsh prince Brychan, and among her many sisters are those whom churches in the area of St Endellion in Cornwall are dedicated for example St Minver, St Teath, and St Mabyn. She lived an austere hermits life in the nearby valley of Trentinney, and is said that her sole subsistence was the milk of a cow. Legend tells how her cow which had strayed, was killed by Lord of Trentinney. He himself was killed by the saints Godfather, reputed to be King Arther. However she restored both Lord of Trentinney and her cow to life. St Endelienta is said to have asked after her death her body be placed on a sledge or cart drawn by young animals, and the she should be buried at the place where they stopped. This is how here shrine at St Endellion in Cornwall was established.
