Chicago & Erie Railroad Personnel File Abstract - Abe DeCamp

ABE DeCAMP
Born 12/11/1866 at Walkerton, IN. Entered the service Nov. 8th, 1889 as brakeman, age 22, unmarried.

Promoted to freight conductor, 4 p.m. Jan. 24th, 1892. Reprimanded Mar. 18th for damaging Mo Pac 8209 and C&E 4162 at Palmer March 3rd, 1894 by careless switching. Was told that all that saved him from severe discipline was his past good record. During the summer of 1899, DeCamp claimed he was an older brakeman than E.M. King, and asked for the head end job with Conductor Sexton on 77 and 90. Supt. Coe had Agent Loomis look through the old pay rolls at 14th Street (Chicago) and certifies as follows: DeCamp's name does not appear on any payroll prior to Nov., 1889 when he made 19 days. E.M. King made 2 days in Oct., 1889 which makes him the older man. See file 16/89, Supt's Office.

As conductor No. 77 of July 31, 1904, handled P&R 16824, Huntington to Chicago when it was routed via Urbana and the PCC&StL. Notified by HDM on 08/19, File 7842.
