Erie Railroad Biography - Charles A. Holmes

Engineer Charles Holmes, who has been under treatment at the St. James Mercy hospital, is about again and will soon resume his old run.

Allegheny Division Engineer Charles A. Holmes, died at his home, No. 25 Blaine St., Hornell, N.Y., Jan. 9 (1914) following an illness of several months. He was 49 years of age.

In October, 1886, he entered the service of the Erie Railroad Company as a fireman. On April 11, 1891, he was promoted to engineer, which position he held at the time of his death, working on a pusher engine in Salamanca Yard.

Mr. Holmes was very popular in railroad circles, as well as in his home town and his death is greatly lamented.
