Entered service as brakeman Aug. 10th, 1888.

Suspended 10 days July 22nd for failing to fasten switch after he had thrown it at 55th Street, causing engine to leave track. Garnished by Rathbourn & Co. 03/22/1889. Suspended 15 days Nov. 1st for backing cars in on relief track at C&E pit Oct. 30th, parting two cars off end of train. Promoted to freight conductor Jan. 22nd, 1892.

Suspended Feb. 1st, 1892 for 10 days for not being on top of train approaching Englewood. Run between Wabash passenger train and station. Reprimanded May 31st for not opening switch for train to pull out of Huntington yard, May 22, 1893, resulted in damage to switch.

By referring to old C&A pay rolls it is found that Longfellow made $6.69 in Jan., 1888 and has been in service ever since. See file 208, Supt's Office, HDM, 02/16/1895.

Suspended 5 days for misplacing a switch at Hammond yard Feb. 6th, 1895, resulting in $3.00 damage to same. Suspended 30 days from June 8th for careless switching at Griffith on 90, June 15th, 1895, broke a Janney D bar on Erie refrigerator 385.

Suspended two round trips from April 26 for making erroes in wheel report of 87, Mar. 19th, 1896. Suspended 7 days from Feb. 2nd for not being in his place on No. 77 when train parted at Servia, Jan. 7, 1898.

January, 18, 1899, 3rd 85, engine 700, shoved 3 cars off end of track 19 in Hammond about 5:30 a.m. while setting 7 cars in on said track. Should have been on the ground to supervise this movement instead of going to the office and depending on the brakeman to handle it. Damage $17.85.

Feb. 18th, 1899, failed to report for 2nd 90 out of Chicago, delaying train 25 minutes to call another man. Regular conductor, regular run and no calling necessary.

Dismissed April 8th for failure to protect his train (Extra 756 West) after stalling between Levings and Akron and standing there 40 minutes until No. 3 came up behind this train, Jan. 23rd, 1900.
