From the May, 1939 issue of Erie Railroad Magazine:
Retired engineer F.W. Kurtz was one of five aged Erie veteran employees on the platform at Hornell station to greet the William Crooks historic locomotive on its journey to the New York Worlds' Fair. Mr. Kurtz was 81 and had retired after 56 years of service. The photo (crop above) appeared in the Hornell Eveneing Tribune.
