Erie Railroad Biography - George Huff



From the July 31, 1891 issue of the Hornellsville Weekly Tribune:
Engineer George Huff of the Western Division, who buried his wife on the 17th inst., now mourns the loss of his beloved chhild, which died yesterday morning. His wife was a former resident of Salamanca where she had lived for a number of years before coming to this city. She leaves a number of friends and relatives in Buffalo, Salamanca and Hornellsville, who will mourn her untimely loss.

Mr. Huff has been a resident of this city for a number of years, and has a large number of friends, who will sympathize with him in his bereavement.




From the March, 1925 issue of Erie Railroad Magazine:
George Huff, employed as engineer on the Allegany Division, died at his late home, No. 5 Marshall Avenue, Hornell, NY, on January 31, 1925, after a short illness of pneumonia. Mr. Huff was born September 27, 1863. He entered the service of the Erie Railroad at Hornell as a fireman, August 13, 1881, and was promoted to engineer December 27, 1883. He served in that capacity until the time of his death. For several years Mr. Huff ran one of the fast through line passenger trains. For the past few years he had been running a switch engine on the "Hump."
