Chicago & Erie Railroad Personnel File Abstract - I.O. Miller

I.O. MILLER
Age 23, single. Residence Canton, OH. Formerly with PRR as brakeman. Enters service of C&E as brakeman, Oct. 30, 1890.

Reprimanded for not changing markers when taking siding at Griffith for No. 13., May 14th, 1892. Taken off Conductor Deerwester's car Aug. 25, 1894 on complaint of conductor that his work has been very unsatisfactory. Suspended 20 days from April 18th for disposition shown in Huntington yard when going out on 3rd 81, April 2, 1895. Inspectors had made some cuts in train and pinched cars apart to make some repairs. Miller would not make these couplings, nor allow head man to make them, and as C&E had orders, the engineer called the conductor who made the couplings. Miller's idea was to force yard engine to come around to the west end to do this work which would have caused bad delay. Suspended 30 days for allowing his train 85, Sept. 16, 1895, to leave Ora when block was red and his conductor in office getting orders. On effect 09/23, notified 09/23, expires 10/23/1895.

Transferred to passenger service as brakeman on 9 & 10, August 19th, 1896. Promoted to train baggage agent, 9 & 10, April 13th, 1897. Suspended 5 days for his share of blame for cornering Erie bag 517 and coach 1653 at North Judson, Oct. 3, 1897.

Promoted to extra freight conductor, Jan. 30, 1899. Gave up the run of train baggage agent on trains 9 & 10 of his own accord, May 3, 1899, asking to be transferred back to freight, which was granted and he was assigned to Conductor Drake's crew as freight brakeman, May 11th, 1899.

Made first trip as freight conductor Oct. 1st, 1899 on No. 81. At a regular meeting held by Huntington Lodge No. 55, B of RT, April 9th, 1900, it was decided he should be placed on conductors roster from October 1, 1899. See file 16/123, Supt's Office.
