JOHN BROWN
Entered service in construction August 27, 1882. Promoted to freight brakeman August 15, 1883. Promoted to passenger conductor. Married, age 35, 03/13/1889.

Suspended 30 days Aug. 6th for violation of Rule 112 in connection with special order No. 2 at Marshland. Suspended 10 days May 9th for allowing his train #6 to run the Wabash crossing April 20th with target against them. Suspended 10 days January 2 for carrying car by its destination at Ohio City. Car was taken to Decatur and set out there and after laying there from 12/22 to 12/26 and car was being traced for, Brown picked it up and took it back to Ohio City and made no reports of the facts. Claimed he told his brakeman to set the car out and he failed to see that it was done.

Suspended 10 days, March 7th, 1891, for failing to obey instructions of the Supt. of Transportation in regard to sending in his reports of trains 30-02/27 and 33-02/28. Suspended 10 days from July 20th, 1893 for unsatisfactory reports to auditor; Suspended 20 days from Sept. 1st, 1893 for carrying passengers without proper transportation. Suspended 23 days from Nov. 17th, 1893 for failure to make prompt reports and returns of ticket collections to auditors. Dec. 10th, 1893 after an investigation of two reports against him of having been under the influence of liquor while on duty as a passenger conductor, Gen. Supt. J.C. Moorehead ordered that he be forever barred from passenger service on the C&E Railroad, and in case of any further reports of his drinking would be dismissed from the service.

Discharged for being intoxicated on train No. 97, July 23 & 25.
