John Haynes was chosen Second Engineer in the annual elections at Division No. 16, of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers at their meeting at Galion on Monday, December 4, 1911.

Cincinnati Division engineer J. Haynes was commended for running his engine for 25,442 miles between January 1, 1914 and September 1, 1914 without any engine failures.

John Haynes, retired engineer, died at his home, 355 Bellefontaine Avenue, Marion, OH, Dec. 9th (1936) after a long illness. He was 75. Mr. Haynes began as a fireman in 1885 and became an engineer in 1890. He was a member of Division 16, B of LE, and the Old-Timers Club. Surviving are the widow; four daughters, Mrs. Harry Finch of Cleveland, Miss Elise Haynes of Akron, and Martha and Dorothy at home; and three sons, John, Robert and Theodore at home. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. S.S. Hardy of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Galion.

Per the death certificate, John Haynes was born March 1, 1861 in England to James Haynes and Mary Ann Cane. Informant was Dorothy Haynes at 355 Bellefontaine Ave. The certificate listed the spouse as Ellen Haynes. Burial was Dec. 11, 1936.
