From the August, 1905 issue of Erie Railroad Magazine (Port Jervis News):
Mr. John Karg, for nearly thirty years an Erie employe and a veteran Engineer, died at his home in this town on June 12 (1905) at the age of 48 years. His run for years had been along the New York Division.




From the July, 1905 issue of the Locomotive Engineers' Monthly Journal, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers:
Port Jervis, NY, June 12, Brother John Karg, member of Div. 54, age 48, died of cirrhosis of he liver. He was admitted to the Brotherhood on Oct. 29, 1897. A $3,000 insurance payment was made to Mrs. F. Karg, wife.
