From the November, 1927 issue of Erie Railroad Magazine:
JAMES MONROE HADDEN, Erie Railroad locomotive engineer, died on Sept. 22 (1927) at his home, 245 Grand street, Hornell, N.Y.

He was born at Bath, N.Y., Oct. 15, 1871. Moving to Hornell, he became, just before his twentieth birthday, a locomotive fireman on the Erie. About six months later (Feb. 15, 1902) he was promoted to freight engineer and later was assigned to run a passenger train on the Allegany division. His railroad service thus covered a period of about twenty-six years. He was a very competent engineer and was held in high regard.

Mr. Hadden was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, the Erie Railroad Veterans' Association and the Masonic fraternity. He was an ardent sportsman and was president of the Erie Rod and Gun club.

Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Hadden, of Bath, N.Y., he is survived by his widow, Eva M. Hadden, of Hornell, N.Y.
