J.M. SEWELL
Born 03/13/1853. Entered service September, 1883 as brakeman. Promoted to freight conductor, September 1st, 1884. Married, age 36, 03/13/1889.

Suspended 10 days July 15th for running through switch at Kenton June 10 with train 7. Also for violating Rule 92 and passing Dudley ahead of schedule time and coming into Kenton station 12 minutes ahead of time, showing very poor judgement knowing this territory to be in constant use by gravel trains. Engineer J. Shaffer suspended same length of time for same thing.

Suspended 30 days Dec. 31st, 1891 for running by meeting order with train 81. Had orders to meet engine 517 at Simpson, came to Huntington against them. Engineer J.R. Wilson same offense.

Promoted to regular run on passenger April 7th, 1894. Promoted to regular through passenger runs July 3, 1895. Suspended one round trip for honoring on No. 8 Aug. 26th, 1896 a continuous trip ticket sold for No. 8 Aug. 28th, 1896.

Looked up Sewell's record through time books 2/4/98 finding that his promotion to passenger conductor should date from June 1st, 1893 as he has not made a single day in freight service since May 31st, 1893 -- H. McClelland, Trainmaster.
