Erie Railroad Biography - Michael Leahy


From the August, 1909 issue of the Locomotive Engineers' Monthly Journal, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers:
Buffalo, NY, July 21, 1909, Brother M. Leahy, member of Div. 15, age 63, died from apoplexy. He was admitted to the Brotherhood on June 17, 1872. A $3,000 insurance payment was made to Elizabeth Leahy, wife.

Michael Leahy, Buffalo Division
One of the oldest and best known engineers on the Erie was Michael Leahy, who died in the last week in June (1909) at his home on Ashland Avenue, Buffalo. Mr. Leahy became identified with the Erie in 1864 and retired from service only last fall.

M. Leahy, who was in the service the Erie as an engineer since June 15, 1870, passed away at his home in Ashland Avenue June 21 (1909). For many years he was a member of the General Board of Adjustment and was highly respected by all who knew him. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, and two sons -- W.J. Leahy, Assistant General Passenger Agent for the Rock Island, and Lamar Leahy, an Ensign in the United States Navy.
