O.C. SHIPLEY
Age 21, single. Parents reside at Disko, Ind. No previous experience on railroad. Entered service of C&E as freight brakeman, Western Division, Dec. 29th, 1891.

Discharged May 6th, 1893 to reduce the force. Reemployed June 10, 1893 and restored to former rights (Cancelled by J.C. Stuart's letter of April 1, 1904, File 4820).

Suspended 30 days from June 26th for quarreling with Conductor Mankin in January, 1894. Then when Mankin refused to take him out of Huntington on 1st 85, June 16th, 1894, he talked brakeman F.W. Case into refusing to go in his place. Tried to do the same with brakeman Best and others. Suspended 7 days for not properly setting switches for his train (1st 86, Sept. 24th, 1894) to head into Huntington Yard. Let them in on some cars, had to back out and delayed No. 12. Suspended 10 days from April 27th for not being on top of 2nd 90, March 28th, 1895 (was head brakeman) approaching crossing at Wilders and Kankakee tank. Train parted near west switch at Wilders. Head end stopped at tank and filled up with water, then went to North Judson before discovering train was parted. Caused a delay of one hour and 10 minutes. Clear night.

Suspended 5 days for going to sleep after being called at Huntington, January 19th, 1896, resulted in 56 minutes delay to train. Promoted to freight conductor, Feb. 5, 1901. On July 14, 1904, as conductor of 1st 76, carried regular waybills for merchandise for CC&L at North Judson by, leaving them at Monterey. Made a report of his mistake. Notified by H.D.
