Erie Railroad Biography - William Burt



From the August 1, 1914 issue of The New York Times and October, 1914 Locomotive Engineers Monthly Journal:
Corning, NY, July 31 -- Engineer William B. Burt and Fireman Peter Margesson, both of Hornell, were killed when the boiler of their freight engine exploded at Hunt's, on the Erie Railroad today. H.N. Purcell, brakeman, of Jersey City, was painfully scalded. The train was in motion at the time, and the force of the explosion tore the engine in two. The cause of the accident is unknown. Engineer Burt was a member of BLE Div. 47, Hornell
