Erie Railroad Biography - William Van Sickle


From the May 27, 1916 issue of the Middletown Times-Press:
Port Jervis, May 27 -- William Van Sickle, of Port Jervis, who was one of those killed Friday at Belfast, Allegany County, in the explosion of the boiler of a steam shovel, as told in the Times-Press Friday afternoon, was born in Mt. Salemn, NJ 58 years ago.

The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Rhynear Van Sickle. For many years he was a locomotive engineer on the New York Division of the Erie Railroad and resided in Port Jervis. He had recently been employed as a cranesman by the Erie in this city.

He is survived by one brother, John Van Sickle, and one sister, Mrs. Floyd Beattie, both of Port Jervis. The body will be brought to this city for interment.
