Erie Railroad Biography - Agricultural Development Section

The following official changes in the staff of the Erie Railroad Development service took place on January 1, 1926:

Hawley B. Rogers was appointed chief agricultural agent, vice Luther D. Fuller, resigned. Theodore M. Palmer was appointed agricultural agent.

The Erie Railroad Development service is an adjunct of the Traffic department and its headquarters is Jamestown, N.Y. During the last four or five years it has successfully operated numerous agricultural trains over the lines of the company. The development work done by the Erie Railroad is concededly of great value and importance to the farmers living along the Erie system.

Hawley B. Rogers

Hawley B. Rogers, the new chief agricultural agent, is a graduate of the New York State College of Agriculture, Ithaca. For a number of years he managed the Chautauqua County Farm bureau. Since May 16, 1920, he had served as agricultural agent of the Erie.

T.M. Palmer
Theodore M. Palmer

Theodore M. Palmer has been connected with the Erie since December, 1917, and since August I, 1923, served as farm products agent in the Development service.


Luther D. Fuller

Luther D. Fuller was formerly county agent in Alabama for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and later was agricultural agent for the Southern Railway. He became chief agricultural agent of the Erie Railroad, April 1, 1920. Resigning that post he now goes with the Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railway, with headquarters at Danville, Ill.

At the Hotel Jamestown, Jamestown, N.Y., Dec. 17, a farewell dinner was given to Mr. Fuller by some of his friends among the Erie officials. Speeches were made and a handsome leather brief case was presented to the retiring chief agricultural agent of the Erie Railroad.

Present at the dinner from out of town were J.F. Shinn, general passenger agent, and L.R. Knapp, milk freight agent, New York; C.D. Turner, general freight and passenger agent, Youngstown; E.W. Vail, division freight agent, Meadville; R.R. Beegle, traveling milk agent, Buffalo. Those present from local offices of the Erie were the following from Jamestown : James A. Cleveland, general agent; Frank Priest, division passenger agent; C.T. Gustafson, commercial agent; M.M. Martin, ticket agent; H.B. Rogers, agricultural agent; T.M. Palmer, farm products agent; Carl E. Bergstrom, chief clerk to the chief agricultural agent.
