Samuel volunteered in the New Hampshire Continental Line, served as a private for 6 months in July 10, 1775 to take the place of a deserter, his company commanded by Captain Henry Dearborn. As a Sargent in the regiment of Col John Stark, took part in the siege of Boston in 1775/76. Served in 1776 at Charleston, Mass and in New York. He served two months from Feb 1776 under Captain Lana, in the regiment of Col. Walden as corporeal. In July 1776, he volunteered as a private in the company of Captain Simon Master. He was then stationed on Mt Independence, New York., under Lt Col Samuel Conners. In July 1777, he volunteered for two months with Captain Charles Tayler and was appointed The Orderly Sergeant, later they attached the company to the command of Col Stickery.
Samuel was engaged in the Battle of Bennington, August 16, 1777. Samuel Revolutionary War Record shows he was engaged July 22, 1775 and discharged September 19, 1777. He was placed on the pension roll of Caledonia County of Vermont in 1832
