HUSBAND NOTES:
Charles was in the merchantile business for 36 years, beginning about 1903. Origianlly, he acted as a "husckster", selling a variety of small articles from a four-horse covered wagon on a 60-70 mile route in the Louisville, Kentucky area. He and his family lived in Waterford, Spencer County, Kentucky until about 1922, when they moved to Jeffersontown, Jefferson County, Kentucky, where Charles owned a general store.
He was in an automobile accident in 1941 that left him crippled, with periods of extreme debility. He spent 9 weeks at the Kentucky Baptist Hopsital following the accident. Charles was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jeffersontown, Kentucky, where he served as a church official for many years. His funeral was held at the church and he was buried in Resthaven Cemetery in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. [Aunt Mary's Scrapbook of Death & Marriage Clippings 1930-1960, pp. 2, 3, 16]
Charles had at least two brothers, Elmo and John. At the time of Elmo's death, John was also seriously ill. [Aunt Mary's Scrapbook of Death & Marriage Clippings 1930-1960, p. 38]
WIFE NOTES:
At the time of her father's death in 1905, Mary was "of Waterford Pike", Kentucky. [news clipping found in 1869 Ellaby Bible]
At some point before 1949, Mary's son Kenneth organized a surprise birthday party for his mother. Guests assembled at a neighbor's house across the street before being signaled to the Jasper home. Games, organized by Aline Wiggington were played, presents were opened, and refreshments served. [Aunt Mary's Scrapbook of Death & Marriage Clippings 1930-1960, p. 25]
Mary lived in Jeffersontown, Jefferson County, Kentucky. She was buried in Mt. Washington, Bullitt County, Kentucky, USA.
