William Stahlman: William was a son of Jeremiah, and a
grandson of John, a Revolutionary soldier. Jeremiah and his wife, Catherine
Young, were from Lower Mahantago Township, Schuylkill County, Pa. and came to
Limestone Township, Clarion County, in 1838. There were eleven children in the
family; Ester, Moses, Paul, Nancy Catherine, Benewell, Gabriel, Lucy Ann, Dewalt,
Cornelius, Elizabeth J., and William. William (1837-1919) married Margaret Shaffer in 1859.There were seven children; John (1860-1905) a cripple; Mary (wife of Henry Brosius) had a daughter Dora; Rachel died at six. Simon (1867-1946) married Annie Moser in 1889. Simon’s children: (1) Bessie, married Harry L. Dinger (children –
Olive, Clayton, Elmira, Nellie, Herman, Arlene, Nelson, Harold); (2) Paul H.
Stahlman, married M. Marie Slawson in 1922. They live on a farm in Perry
Township, just across Porter Township line where Simon, a carpenter, had lived
and raised the family. The family of Paul and Marie are: Betty, John, Lee,
William, James, Oma Joye, Terry, Darl, Mary Ann, Jerry, Nada and Thomas; (3)
Arveta, married Harry Daugherty (deceased in 1930) and second married Lynn Haag.
They live in Big Run, Pa.; (4) Irene, married Charles Daugherty, and lives in
Washington Township; (5) Clark, died at seven months. Phoebe Ann (1870-1888) died at 18;
Wallace (1872-1958) married Josephine Franks. They lived in New York. He was in
the bee business. One daughter, Gladys, married Chester
Zimmer. Chester and Gladys had a daughter, Naomi. (edited by Steve S based on
note from Naomi). William and Margaret’s seventh child, Amanda
(1875-1875) died as an infant. Margaret also died in 1875. She, Rachel, and
Amanda Stahlman are buried in Shannondale Cemetery, Clarion County, Pa. Next, William met and married Mary Elsie
Maurer of Ringgold, Jefferson County. She persuaded him to sell the farm in
Clarion County to his cousin and buy one in Ringgold Township, about two miles
east of Ringgold on the Punxsutawney road, now owned by Keith Snyder, where they
moved in the spring of 1876 and raised another family of four. William built a
new house in 1885; it is still in good condition. He finished clearing the farm
where they made a very good living. They sold the farm in 1918 to Cameron
Stewart of Ringgold and moved to Brookville. The children of William and Elsie were: (1) Foster (1880-1963), married to Dora Morrison, and farmed the old place until 1911. He purchased a farm near Reynoldsville. Next he worked for the Jefferson Traction Company between Punxsutawney and Reynoldsville as a motorman until it was discontinued. Foster then worked as a painter and paperhanger; (2) Jerry (1882-1945), married Arcia Cole of New York state. He was in the Bee business in New York and later in Ohio on a large scale. They had two sons; Emmonds of Grover Hill, Ohio, now deceased, and Kenneth of St. Marys, Ohio, a retired employee of the Ford Motor Company; (3) Daniel (1886-1961), married Clara St. John of New York state where he also was in the bee business. Later they moved to Idaho and continued the business on a large scale. They had one son Millard, who also went into the bee business and is now retired. Millard married Fern Crisp and had one son, Jerry, and a daughter, Janice; (4) Clara (1892-1933), married Bert Morrison in 1914. He worked for the Shawmut Railroad out of Brookville, Pa. and later lived on a farm in Washington Township. They had three sons; Earl of Orlando, Florida, Millard of Brockway, Pa., and Jerry of Sandy Lake, Pa. - Submitted by Paul
